1.
Always remember the way it made you feel Your hair inside his hands And in the dark of the churchyard you fell Underneath the leaves It seems simple enough, only do as you're told But oh, to think that you wanted to give your love away You were a child in the green light of spring In starlight or in sun Barely prepared for the cruelty of a man With unclosed eyes You could chart all the stars Their position in time But oh, to think you were ready to give your love away And do you remember all the tricks he played on you Do you remember all the lies he told and the pain that he put you through You asked for nothing, and you gave so much of your own You just lay there and let him walk all over you and leave you all alone Always remember the way it made you feel Your hands inside his coat And in the dark of his eyes, you saw yourself Underneath the leaves Through the mist of time All the reasons just fade and disappear And to think he convinced you to take your love away And who would you be now if he'd taken it from you Would you still be there in that house so many years from that afternoon And why did you offer what you did when you did And would you really have taken it all upon yourself and thrown it all away

Like A Dream 04:25
So I would take you out to be seen And you would genuflect like a dream I would take your hand, you would be mine But you were only passing time (Chorus:) I will always be on your side Even when you don't want me around I will help you to win your fight If you will tell me what you've found So we would dash across the umbilical And you would ask me why I was cynical Sometimes in the night, there by your side I would support you while you cried (Chorus) Waiting to see what you've become Looking to find a place to get old Sometimes I see what you've begun And you forgot what you were told Up in the firmament were the stars Down on the ground we'd sing to the cars You would take my hand, I would be yours We couldn't see what was in store (Chorus)

Clockwork 03:23
In a little while, when I feel stronger I’ll put to rest these memories of him And though I miss his smile, it won’t take much longer You always knew which one was gonna win (Chorus:) And your mind is like clockwork You can see the way I move You can see the reasons why And your mind is like clockwork And I want this to be true And I put my trust in you You’d be worried if you knew the way I fall The way I fall In the nick of time was when you found me It’s strange to think how different I was then And though I call you mine, and though you stay around me With honesty, I know it’s just pretend (Chorus) The way I fall so hard that I lose myself And it has been so long since I lost myself Though you know how close I came to that open flame It was you who pulled me away, pulled me away (Chorus)
5.
Watch the snow cover the hills She felt the real world slipping away Into the back of her mind Many lives lived in one day And many selves she sheltered inside Until the truth died away (Chorus:) But she will never be good enough Cus good intentions are not enough She will always be out of touch It's too much effort to stay in touch To really make it right, she will need to leave this world The circling girl She can feel them closing in She has a hundred places to hide And in her head, a thousand more But she's sure to leave them a sign And in the end, she knows she'll be found There's always an end to the hunt (Chorus) She only knew how to give herself away She only knew how to waste another day So she tried to learn Who was best to turn to She tried to find all the things she'd left behind (Chorus)
6.
Spiral 04:24
What if I don't see the light What if I got lost in the night We need the time and the space to unwind And I'm afraid of the things we could find (Bridge) I give you what you need I can't do any more than that I talk and you pay no heed And you ask me if I'm going to pass I decide to change my name Maybe then I won't be the same But in the course of a day in my skin I see the depth of the rut I am in (Bridge) (Chorus:) Do you see it's like a spiral It turns and we obey And we give and we give to the spiral But we shall not prevail I can choose when to laugh or cry And if I want, I can choose when to die But when it comes to the hour I have planned I shy away and I don't understand (Bridge) (Chorus)
7.
This Love 03:23
The stories you tell me, along with the pictures you paint Are just one more reason to be jealous of you The grass in your garden, with all its accompanying shade So welcoming and listless on a warm afternoon (Chorus:) No time to spend another day Lying among the leaves and harmonies without you This love could be lost along the way Left under the olive trees and the whispering breezes of youth Another reflection, untrue to the shape of your face Stares out from your mirror, unbidden and unkind A day in your company is never quite long enough And although you always think the worst, I'll soon change your mind (Chorus) Left under the olive trees, forgetting all the things we know to be true And the thread of life gets tangled in this web of past regrets And our holidays together, I'm unable to forget And this nervousness in my hands It makes the writing hard to understand But I'm sure you know what I'm trying to say It's my shaking bones, they get in my way (Chorus)
8.
I might just leave it all behind Give up my past and try to find Something I can keep Somewhere on the cheap and easy side I'd give up everything I own Don't make me spend the night alone Like every other night Let me have the right to call this my home (Chorus:) I'm taking strange to the limit I'm done accepting my lot It's getting clearer every minute I could be worried but I'm not I should be worried but I'm not I might just start again with you Desert this town, try somewhere new In Lorelei maybe Could it be that we've found something true? (Chorus) My secrets and my lies I'll tell you I'm cutting all the ties that hold me here In between light and shadow I found what I need (Chorus)
9.
I know the man in the factory He hates it there but he's got to eat Wife says he's mad, doesn't want to be a dad Doesn't want more mouths to feed (Chorus:) You know what I'm going to say There's got to be a better way Working for one last meal And it doesn't even matter how you feel I know the boy who cleans the streets Wanted to stand on his own two feet Dropped out of school, couldn't take all the rules The pressure was hard to beat (Chorus) I know the girl behind the till Feels like she's always climbing uphill Knows what she had, she drinks when she's sad Helps to wash down the pills (Chorus) I know what I want to do I don't want to be like you Wishing your lives away And you're only going to live a few more days

about

Each song on Corinne Lucy’s album Clockwork feels like its own world, from the waltzing guitars and rolling Hammond organs of Always Remember, to the throbbing bass of the title track, to the sweet violins of Strange To The Limit – this ambitious debut album covers all the bases. The one thread holding everything together is the angelic voice at the centre of every track, and the soaring harmonies that drape each contrasting arrangement.

Clockwork is the product of five years of songwriting, culminating in these intimate and personal songs. “Most of my writing happens when I’m going through something that I can’t talk about,” Corinne explains. “Some things are easier to sing than they are to say.” Inside The Jar and This Love certainly feel full of this longing; heartfelt and awash with nostalgia, they are the emotional core of an album that manages to tie broody torch songs and funky neo-tribal jams into one heartfelt whole.
